Structural Heart Interventions: The Rise of Transcatheter Therapies in Contemporary Cardiology

Author(s):

Structural heart disease (SHD) encompasses a spectrum of cardiac abnormalities affecting valves, chambers, and septa. Over the past two decades, transcatheter therapies have revolutionized the management of SHD, offering minimally invasive alternatives to traditional surgery. This review explores the evolution, current applications, and future directions of transcatheter structural heart interventions, focusing on key procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral and tricuspid valve repair/replacement, and left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). We also discuss technological advancements, clinical outcomes, and challenges in patient selection and procedural optimization.
